Adéchègoun Mèschac Bertrand
Chabi

PhD Student - University Joseph Ki Zerbo

I'm Chabi, Adéchègoun Mèschac Bertrand, originally from Benin, and I hold a Master's degree in Animal Biology and Ecology with a Parasitology option, since 2022 at the Joseph KI ZERBO University in Burkina Faso. As part of this Master's degree, I worked on bat gastrointestinal helminthes, which are recognized as non-pathogenic but can have an impact on the bat immune system. In October 2023, I began my PhD, with the aim of implementing the One Health concept, studying the pathogenic role of bat ectoparasites in the transmission of infectious diseases. Beyond that, I'm interested in the impact of ectoparasites and anthropogenic activities on the conservation of cave bats.

Being part of the AfriPopo organising committee is my very first experience of working with international people working on bats, and I think I'll be able to gain a lot of knowledge and, above all, bring something extra to the AfriPopo Student Indaba.
