Purity KalengeI am passionate about conservation education and making sure everyone, especially youth and women, has a seat at the table when it comes to environmental matters. My love for nature started when I was young. I spent my childhood holidays on my parents’ farm in Northern Zambia, surrounded by lush landscapes and fresh air. By the age of 8, I had already noticed the stark contrast between the bustling city, where forests were disappearing and pollution was creeping in, and the vibrant, untouched beauty of rural Zambia. It was this early exposure to both worlds that sparked my lifelong connection to nature.
Spending time with my parents on the farm taught me the importance of connecting with natural spaces, and I’ve carried that passion with me ever since. I also developed a strong desire to empower communities, especially young people and women, with the knowledge and tools to make a difference. This led me to pursue a BA in Education at the University of Zambia. I’ve been fortunate to work with organisations that share my passion for environmental education, and it’s in these spaces that I found the perfect way to bring together everything I care about. My journey has been deeply enriched by the guidance of incredible mentors like Anna Tolan, a passionate conservationist and educator whose work has helped shape me into the conservationist I am today. With this blend of experience, passion, and mentorship, I’m more committed than ever to making a positive impact on the environment and the communities that protect it. And I’m just getting started.
