Simeon Bezeng Bezeng (Simmy)

Simmy Bezeng completed his PhD in Botany from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa in 2015. He is an Invasion Biologist, with a diverse interest in using modern technological innovations to understand drivers of biodiversity loss. Bezeng is a certified IUCN Red List and Key Biodiversity Areas Trainer and works primarily across several African countries to support capacity-building initiatives to develop a National Red List and identify Key Biodiversity Areas.

Bezeng heads up the Regional Conservation Programme at BirdLife South Africa and is a staff of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) Chair’s Office. Additionally, he is a member of the following groups within the IUCN SSC network - Hornbill, and Invasive Species Specialist Groups and Steering and Red List Committees.​
