Staff Associate  - University of Malawi

Salome Kahonge

I am a 25 years old Malawian lady. I have a bachelors of science degree obtained from the University of Malawi. I am currently working with the University of Malawi as a staff associate in vertebrate zoology. I lecture behavioural ecology and vertebrate form and function at this university.

My area of research interest is on bats. I would like to study bats in Malawi; their habitats, food, bat species, distribution, abundance and diversity. Knowledge on bats would help in applying conservation strategies of the bat population in Malawi. I am planning to do my masters and my area of study will be on bats, understanding how habitat and food influence distribution and abundance of bats. I believe that my study on bats would benefit Malawi as according to studies, bats diversity and abundance is a key indicator of habitat disturbance, environmental change and potential conservative value.
