Engagement

Ever heard the saying 'a bird in the hand in worth two in the bush'? Well this is very true for bats, particularly when you see the excitement of someone seeing a bat up close for the first time.

Bats without Borders is committed to providing community engagement activities that are inspiring and fun, as well as educational and interactive. We are in the process of delivering online training to support new bat groups, doing school visits to run activities, and are developing environmental education workshops for teachers and environmental educators to promote a positive image of bats.

Would you be interested in starting up a bat group to promote bats and run local bat activity events? If you would like to know more or register your interest, please get in touch.

As a bat group member you will have the opportunity to have a real and significant impact on bat conservation by helping to change attitudes towards bats. I remember hearing a story from a friend of mine who lead a public engagement bat box checking event. Volunteers met on site and went around checking bat boxes, hoping to get a sneaky peek of bats up close.... Inside one of the first boxes, sure enough there was a bat, the group leader took the bat out to show the group and then giving a young boy a pair of gloves he was allowed to hold the bat. When they put the bat back into the box and replaced the box in the tree, the young boy turned to the leader and declared 'I'm never washing my hands again!''

Conservation Careers Fair in Zambia

Bats without Borders was delighted to take part in the Conservation Careers Fair in Zambia organised by Wildlife Crime Prevention (WCP).

Thank you to Helen, Alison, Bernard and Danny (aka #teamZambia) for going along to engage early career professionals about bats and bat research and conservation!
