The event: Bats without Borders ran an exciting one-day event 'Around the Bat World in 8 Sessions' on 17 September 2022. We heard about the diversity of work being carried out by different bat groups around the world. We were lucky to have a wonderful line up of speakers to showcase some of the great work carried out by different bat groups. The speakers were based in Australia, Asia, South Africa, Zambia, Ghana and Europe, and provided a snapshot of the work they do and offered some lessons that they have learned along the way. Scroll down to see the full line up from the day.
The aim of the day was to learn about bat conservation work taking place in different parts of the world and hopefully inspire the creation of new bat groups, particularly across southern Africa.
Who the event was for: This event was open to all and it was brilliant to see attendees from all parts of the globe, and from experienced bat workers to attendees completely new to the bat world. The event had a particular focus on inspiring people across southern Africa to find out more about bats and to consider setting up a bat group.
Cost: To ensure our events are inclusive, they are free to attend but there is an option to make a donation (of your choice) for those that can. As a small NGO we heavily rely on donations and would encourage you to consider donating if you are in a position to do so.
Next steps: After the success of the 'Around the Bat World in 8 Sessions' event, Bats without Borders has launched a 'How to set up a bat group' training programme. With a grant from Bat Conservation International we are running training to provide interested and enthusiastic individuals across southern Africa with the knowledge, tools, and support required to run bat walks and talks and/or set up local bat groups.
