PhD Researcher - University of Free State
Picture

Veli Mdluli

Veli Monday Mdluli is a PhD student at the University of the Free State. He is currently with the Mountain Bat Lab with his main focus being on bat and mountain research under the Afromontane Research Unit (ARU). With climate change and anthropogenic pressures in Afromontane grasslands, he believes that bat and other biodiversity research in these ecosystems is more important than ever especially in the Drakensberg where there is high levels of species endemism. Before joining the ARU, he was with the University of Eswatini where he obtained his Msc. in Conservation Ecology. As a young scientist, he looks to spread awareness on the significance of conservation of the precious African biodiversity with a strong interest in bats. He enjoys hiking and being one with nature hence mountain research has become his life.
